BOC-3 process agent checklist
Your authority won't go active without a BOC-3 on file. Here's how to get it done once and done right.
The BOC-3 (Designation of Process Agents) names a person in each state who can accept legal papers for your company. FMCSA won't activate operating authority until it's on file.
Most carriers use a process agent company with blanket coverage in all states. The company files the BOC-3 with FMCSA electronically for a small one-time fee.

Questions carriers ask
How long does a BOC-3 take?
Blanket process agent companies usually file within a day. It can take a few days to show on FMCSA's record.
Do I renew the BOC-3 every year?
No. It stays on file unless your business details or process agent change.
