Freight in Greensboro

Greensboro is the bigger half of the Greensboro–High Point metro, where about 47,300 people work in manufacturing and 83,600 in trade, transportation and utilities (BLS, August 2026, preliminary). That mix means freight both ways: finished goods and parts leaving plants, and store and warehouse freight coming in.

Volvo Group North America and Mack Trucks have their headquarters here, Harris Teeter runs its grocery, frozen and perishable distribution centers here, and next door in Liberty, Toyota's battery plant ships hybrid battery modules to Toyota's Kentucky plant and Mazda Toyota in Alabama. High Point, the furniture capital, sits just to the southwest, so furniture and home goods are a big part of local dry van and box truck freight.

The I-840 Urban Loop, finished in January 2023, lets through traffic skip the I-40/I-85 stretch in town. I-73 runs south toward Asheboro, US 220 north toward Virginia, and I-74 serves High Point and Winston-Salem.

Most for-hire carriers based in Greensboro are small: two out of three run a single truck or less. That's who we work for: owner-operators and small fleets who want a dispatcher handling the load boards, broker calls and paperwork.

What we book, by truck type

Dry van

Manufacturing, distribution and furniture freight keep dry vans busy. We look for reloads close to Greensboro so you're not deadheading out of the Triad.

Reefer

Grocery and perishable distribution in Greensboro, plus North Carolina's sweet potatoes, berries and produce, keep reefers moving. We plan reloads so the unit isn't running empty.

Flatbed

Building materials, machinery and plant equipment move in and out of the area's factories and job sites. We check securement and tarp needs before we book.

Box truck

Furniture is light but bulky, which suits 26-foot box trucks, especially around High Point Market and for final-mile deliveries.

Power only

Preloaded trailers and drop-and-hook freight out of area warehouses work well for power only units.

How we dispatch here

  • We plan High Point pickups and deliveries around High Point Market (October 17–21, 2026 and April 10–14, 2027), when showroom traffic fills the area
  • NCDOT says most rest area truck spaces fill up every night, so we plan your stop before you roll and never send you to park on Greensboro streets
  • We route through traffic on the I-840 Urban Loop instead of the I-40/I-85 stretch in town when that saves time
  • For Port of Wilmington loads, I-40 runs straight to the coast. Drivers need a TWIC card for unescorted access to secure terminal areas
  • General freight carriers don't need separate North Carolina operating authority, only household goods and passenger carriers do

State rules, permits and taxes are on our North Carolina dispatch page.

Fleetorica is a dispatch service, not a broker or carrier. We book loads under your authority, from Greensboro and anywhere in the lower 48, and you approve every load.
