How to use it

Search by company name, USDOT number, MC number or phone number. Name search matches the legal name and the DBA name, so “Farmer Transport” finds both. Pick a state to narrow a common name. Then open a company to see whether it’s allowed to operate, its carrier and broker authority, the insurance and bond FMCSA has on file, crashes and inspection out-of-service rates, fleet size, cargo and when it registered.

Authority, insurance and safety come live from FMCSA when you open a company. Name and phone search use FMCSA’s company census file, which we refresh every week, so a company that registered in the last few days may only show up by USDOT or MC number.

Always pair this with the broker vetting checklist. Scammers copy real companies’ names and numbers, so call back on the phone number FMCSA lists, not the one in the email.

Questions carriers ask

How do I check if a broker is legit?

Confirm active broker authority and a bond on file, then verify the email domain and call back on the number listed with FMCSA or on their official website.

Can I search by company name or phone number?

Yes. Choose “Company name” or “Phone number” in “Search by.” Name search matches legal and DBA names, and you can filter by state.

Where does the data come from?

FMCSA, the same source as the SAFER website: its live carrier API for authority, insurance and safety, and its company census file for name and phone search.

What does an out-of-service rate mean?

It’s the share of a company’s roadside inspections in the last 24 months that put a driver or vehicle out of service. We show it next to the national average so you can compare.
