Freight in Tampa
Port Tampa Bay calls itself Florida's largest and most diversified port: about 5,000 acres, with 32.4 million tons across all berths in fiscal year 2025 (October 2024 to September 2025). Petroleum products are the biggest cargo, about 17.8 million tons, much of it sent on by pipeline. Phosphate rock and chemicals (3.1 million tons), cement, aggregates, sulphur, ammonia and citrus juice concentrate also cross the docks, and the port handled 262,803 containers (TEUs, including empties). Its 100-acre container terminal, run with Ports America, has six post-Panamax cranes and a third deep-water berth under way, and a 135,000-square-foot on-dock cold storage warehouse has 250 reefer plugs and USDA and CBP inspection.
Away from the water, the Tampa Bay EDC counts more than 550 million square feet of distribution space along the Tampa–Orlando I-4 corridor, the largest cluster of distribution centers in Florida. Publix tops the City of Tampa's 2025 list of principal employers with about 47,200 workers in the region, and Amazon says its Ruskin fulfillment center, its first in Florida, employs more than 3,000. Mosaic's Riverview plant, running since 1924, turns phosphate rock into fertilizer and makes about 18% of the phosphate fertilizer used in North America. New port terminals for Cemex aggregates, SESCO cement and Titan America cement opened in 2026, adding construction-material freight.

FDOT's 2020 statewide study found that drivers stop early or park in unauthorized spots because Tampa has little truck parking, and that many park 25 to 45 miles out, near New Port Richey, at the Pasco County rest area, in Plant City or in Bradenton. It found the Hillsborough County rest areas on I-75 over capacity, with trucks on the ramps, and unauthorized parking around the port. The Seffner weigh station on I-4 had 15 truck spaces each way and was about half used. Source
Weigh stations
FDOT's Seffner weigh station is on I-4 at mile 13 in Hillsborough County, east of Tampa, with weigh-in-motion and a truck comfort station for both directions. FDOT also runs a static station on US 60 at Hopewell, in eastern Hillsborough County. The nearest I-75 stations are Punta Gorda (mile 160) to the south and Wildwood (mile 339) to the north. Source

What we book, by truck type
Dry van
Grocery, e-commerce and retail distribution along I-4 keeps dry vans busy all year, and port containers add import freight. We look for reloads close to Tampa or a short run away in Lakeland or Orlando.
Reefer
The port's cold storage handles imported produce, and Florida strawberries, citrus and vegetables move from fall into spring. We confirm the temperature and appointment before we book.
Flatbed
Steel, scrap, project cargo and new aggregate and cement terminals at the port make steady flatbed work. We check securement, tarps and permits before we book.
Power only
Big distribution centers along I-4 and in southern Hillsborough County put preloaded trailers on the market. We confirm the trailer, pickup number and gate rules before you go.
Box truck
A fast-growing metro means steady box truck work, including final-mile deliveries across Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties.
How we dispatch here
- FDOT's driver survey found that drivers often park 25 to 45 miles out (New Port Richey, the Pasco County rest area, Plant City or Bradenton) or in unauthorized spots near the port, so we plan your stop before you roll
- For port loads we send you on the I-4/Selmon connector and the port's truck ramp, not through downtown streets
- We avoid booking tight appointments that run you through I-4 and I-275 downtown at rush hour
- Coming into Florida, trucks stop at agricultural inspection stations, so we make sure your bill of lading is ready
- During hurricane season we watch the storm track and the port's operations notices, avoid booking into evacuation zones and look for recovery loads when it's safe
State rules, permits and taxes are on our Florida dispatch page.
Pricing
