Main corridors

The interstates most of our Pennsylvania loads run on: I-76 (PA Turnpike), I-78, I-80, I-81, I-95, I-476.

I-81 and I-78 carry most of the warehouse freight. The Turnpike (I-76) crosses the state east to west with tolls, while I-80 is the toll-free alternative across the north.

Freight and seasons

Retail and e-commerce freight, snack foods and candy, steel and gas-field freight move all year. Southeastern Pennsylvania is a major mushroom-growing area, which means steady reefer loads. Mountain grades and winter weather on I-80 and I-81 add time and fuel.

Pennsylvania rules to know

Every interstate carrier needs a USDOT number, MC authority, UCR and, for most semis, IRP plates and an IFTA license. On top of that:

PA Turnpike tolls

The Turnpike has been all-electronic since 2020, so there's no cash. With E-ZPass you pay far less than with Toll By Plate, whose invoices arrive weeks later. Source

Intrastate: PA PUC authority

If a load's pickup and delivery are both in Pennsylvania and you're paid for it, you need authority from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. Your USDOT and MC don't cover intrastate hauling. Source

New York next door

Loads into New York need a New York Highway Use Tax (HUT) certificate for trucks over 18,000 lb. Source

How we dispatch here

  • We make sure every truck we dispatch in PA has E-ZPass. Toll By Plate eats profit.
  • The I-81 and I-78 warehouse belts give reliable reloads.
  • We compare the Turnpike with I-80 on each cross-state trip.
  • We never book a Pennsylvania-to-Pennsylvania load for a carrier without PUC authority.
Fleetorica is a dispatch service, not a broker or carrier. We book loads under your authority, in Pennsylvania and the rest of the lower 48, and you approve every load.
