Freight in Fargo
Fargo is where North Dakota's two interstates cross. NDDOT's 2024 counts show 72,803 vehicles a day on I-94 at the Red River bridge, 5,444 of them trucks, and 35,722 a day on I-29 north of 12th Avenue North, 4,284 of them trucks. Truck traffic at that I-29 counter is up about 60% since 2004. North Dakota's freight plan calls I-29 and I-94 major truck routes connecting Canada and local farms and plants with the central U.S., and I-29 runs north to Pembina, one of the three border crossings that handle 88% of the state's truck crossings.
Local freight comes from equipment makers, food plants and distributors. The Greater Fargo Moorhead EDC lists Doosan Bobcat, whose North American headquarters is in West Fargo, plus CNH Industrial, Caterpillar Reman, Trail King, Cardinal IG, TrueNorth Steel and Northern Plains Steel among area manufacturers, and Amazon's Fargo fulfillment center, Border States, Cash-Wa Distributing, Dacotah Paper, United Natural Foods (UNFI) and Swanson Health Products among distribution and logistics employers. On Job Service North Dakota's 2025 statewide list, Doosan Bobcat ranks No. 4, Marvin No. 8, Scheels No. 16 and Cash Wise Foods No. 18.

NDDOT doesn't publish truck space counts for each rest area. Source
Rest area details are from NDDOT news releases: Lynchburg reopened on September 18, 2025 after repairs, and in August 2025 NDDOT said Oriska was being rebuilt and would stay closed until fall 2026. Check ND Roads before you count on either one. Source
Weigh stations
The North Dakota Highway Patrol's Motor Carrier division runs size and weight enforcement with six size and weight troopers and twelve troopers who mainly do truck inspections. Its 2026 handbook says every vehicle in the state can have its weight checked on portable or fixed scales, and trucks over 10,000 lb GVWR are subject to safety inspection. Source
NDDOT's 2024 traffic report places weigh-in-motion counters next to fixed scales on I-29 near Mooreton, south of Fargo toward Wahpeton, and near Joliette by the Canadian border. We found no official list of fixed scale hours, so we don't promise when they're open. Source

What we book, by truck type
Dry van
Amazon's Fargo fulfillment center, Border States, Dacotah Paper and Swanson Health Products ship all year. We look for the reload before you deliver so you're not deadheading across the prairie.
Reefer
Food distributors like Cash-Wa and UNFI and grocery chains move refrigerated freight. We confirm the temperature and the appointment, and in winter we ask about protect-from-freeze loads too.
Flatbed
Bobcat, CNH, Caterpillar Reman, Trail King and the steel fabricators ship machines and steel. We check securement, tarps and the rail underpass heights before we book.
Power only
Plants and distribution centers along I-94 and I-29 put preloaded trailers on the market. We confirm the trailer, the pickup number and the dock hours before you go.
Box truck
Retail, grocery and parcel distribution across Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead means steady box truck work, including final-mile deliveries.
How we dispatch here
- If your load is over 13 feet, we keep you off Business US 81 under the BNSF tracks at Main Avenue, where the clearance is 13 feet 2 inches
- From late winter into spring we check NDDOT's load restriction order before booking heavy loads off I-94 and I-29
- If a load runs over 75 feet overall, North Dakota requires an Oversize Load sign, so we flag it before you hook up
- For your break, we line up a truck stop in Fargo-Moorhead early, since that's where most of the state's truck parking is
- In winter we watch ND Roads for I-94 and I-29 closures and move appointments early when a storm is coming
State rules, permits and taxes are on our North Dakota dispatch page.
Pricing
a percentage of the load's gross, quoted for your truck and lanes, charged only on loads we book. No contract, and your first load is free.
